Oktoberfest, There is a Difference

and a huge one that is. Let me describe and explain.
Prior to my Munich stop for Oktoberfest, where the whole festival came about backlog some 200 years ago as a wedding commemoration of sorts, I always thought that the Oktoberfest celebration at 1U was pretty damn awesome.

And why shouldn't it be? RM1 for a beer. Its hard to fine such prices really, even if its just a limited amount of bottles. Well back then you were allowed to buy a bottle of RM1 beer and chug it down instantly before queuing up to buy another. Now you can't do that. each person's tied to a limit of just 1 purchase per day. Which is pretty sucky.

But hey its still good right? Even if its just one bottle. Its the price!

No one really complained and everyone had a good time. And once people get woozy from beer and thrash talk during the event, they'll start buying more and more beer. Premium beers. Darn good marketing strategy if you asked me.

But soon, problems arise.

No doubt, you may be at a bloody awesome drinking event with great drinking friends like this:

But yet, if you looked closely, you would've noticed something pretty obvious, and important.

THE PLACE IS FRIGGIN EMPTY!

Gawd for such an important drinking festival that is rightfully celebrated, there is a serious lack of atmosphere. Tables are empty, people are drinking from pathetic bottles, and the music, well lets not even go into there.

Something has to be done, and fast. either more free and cheap beer has to be given out or the prices of premium beer must be reduced drastically. there is absolutely no benefits in keeping beer prices so high. Its bad for the economy, trust me. Even a kindergarten kid can tell you that much.

See how sad it is? It feels more like a Chinese wedding buffet rather than a famous beer festival.

But Munich on the other hand, was simply amazing. What can I say, thats where it all started afterall, 200 years ago. From the people, to the food, the ladies, oh and of course, the steins of beer.

Just look at the stein, one bloody full liter of beer. Amazing aint it? and the pork knuckle, simply the best.
But most importantly of all was the atmosphere which was way different. Here Oktoberfest is a big thing and thousands and thousands of people from all over flock to Munich during that period for the drinking. They drink, they sing and they make merry. All in all, a good day's work in the office.

To me, for that chance to finally visit Munich and experience a real Oktoberfest, I couldn't be happier. It felt like a dream come true.

But of course, every good drinking session must have good drinking buddies, and with that,

CHEERS! PROST!!

PREGO!!
